Kentucky’s opening round NCAA Tournament game just got tougher.

That’s because John Calipari just announced star forward PJ Washington is out for the Abilene Christian game. While the Wildcats should have little trouble beating Abilene Christian either way, this news should make the game at least a bit more interesting, particularly when it comes to Kentucky’s potential Round of 32 game on Saturday.

After sounded optimist that Washington could be able to play on Wednesday, Calipari released the following statement on Twitter Thursday morning:

“The specialists confirmed our original diagnosis that PJ Washington has a sprained foot and there is no fracture. Once we determined that PJ was not going to play today, they put him in a hard cast for precautionary reasons. He is out for today’s game.”

Kentucky, the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region, opens the 2019 NCAA Tournament against No. 15 seed Abilene Christian at 7:10 p.m. ET/6:10 p.m. CT on CBS.
