Kentucky could be getting a new receivers coach, and it could be coming from its arch rival.

According to Kentucky Sports Radio’s Tyler Thompson, Louisville receivers coach Lamar Thomas may be joining Mark Stoops’ staff in Lexington in the same capacity.

The potential hire would rob Louisville coach Bobby Petrino of an assistant that’s worked under him for the last three seasons.

Thomas, a member of the Miami Hurricanes’ Hall of Fame and a two-time national champion with the school, has been a part of Petrino’s staff since he rejoined Louisville in 2014 and was also a part of his staff at Western Kentucky prior to that in 2013.

The Wildcats have been looking for a replacement for Chad Scott, who left Kentucky to become a tight ends/hybrids coach at North Carolina.

Thomas has been making waves in recruiting, especially after landing dual-threat QB Lamar Jackson, who racked up 453 yards of total offense with 4 TDs in the Cardinals’ 27-21 win over Texas A&M in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30.

In that performance, Jackson became just the third FBS quarterback to tally 200-plus yards passing (227) and rushing (226) in a bowl game.
