More than any other school in the SEC (and maybe in the country), it feels like LSU fights a never-ending war against extreme attrition.

The Tigers try to stockpile talent at positions faster than the NFL can pluck it, and also develop it into productive college players before they leave on raw potential.

So far, LSU is fighting the good fight during the ’16 cycle. The Tigers are in position to legitimately scrap with Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee for the distinction of the SEC’s top-ranked class come February of next year.

LSU is the only school ranked among the top nine in the 247Sports consensus with single-digit current commitments. But the Tigers have picked up some outstanding quality, including the nation’s No. 1 dual-threat quarterback, No. 2 cornerback and No. 3 guard.

The current class includes commitments from a trio of four-star players at receiver or tight end as well. Among the team’s ’16 recruiting targets who seemingly are interested in LSU, the team seems poised to land yet another envy-inducing group of defensive backs.

Coach Les Miles and his staff need to keep plugging away — and a better season on the field in ’15 would help — but this group currently projects to bring more quality talent to LSU than even the standard touted class to which the fans have become accustomed.
