Phil Steele wrote an ESPN Insider article Wednesday displaying his four best bets at winning the College Football Playoff in 2016. These aren’t his four best teams, but at the odds at which they are given, sometimes a long shot is a better bet to make than an overwhelming favorite. (See Leicester City)

Alabama, at this point, is the favorite at 5-1. But, Steele didn’t list the Crimson Tide among his four best bets. Steele has Florida State at 12-1, LSU at 15-1, TCU at 50-1 and Iowa at 100-1 being great bets to make.

“Last year the Tigers rode Leonard Fournette to a 7-0 record and a No. 4 ranking in the polls, but lost three of their last five games,” said Steele on LSU. “This year they have 17 returning starters, including Fournette and two NFL-caliber receivers in Travin Dural and Malachi Dupre. They bring in defensive coordinator Dave Aranda from Wisconsin.

“The Tigers get the key game versus Alabama at home and that could determine the SEC West, SEC Title and a berth in the playoff.”

Can we just get to Nov. 5 already? That’s when the world will be watching the Crimson Tide invade Death Valley.
