It would be hard to imagine Les Miles not accepting a head coach position — probably at a Power 5 school — sometime this upcoming offseason.

But a surprising twist to this plot might result in Miles taking on an assistant role for the remainder of the 2016 season. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh was asked about that possibility of adding Miles to his coaching staff as a consultant or something similar, and he didn’t shut it down.

“Good suggestions,” Harbaugh said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “I have the utmost respect for Les, coach Miles, and Cam (Cameron). Haven’t talked to them yet. Hope to soon.”

Miles, a former Michigan offensive lineman (1974-75) and graduate assistant (1980-81), indicated Monday that he has no intention of retiring and “would have a difficult time not being involved in the game and to coach.”

Though it’s unlikely that Miles accepts any kind of gig until December (unless it’s with ESPN), this still might be worth keeping an eye on. You just never know with Harbaugh.
