Derek Stingley Jr. came up big for the Houston Texans with the first interception of his NFL career.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were driving when Stingley picked off QB Trevor Lawrence in the end zone, keeping points off the board in a tied game. It is Stingley’s first time facing Lawrence since LSU defeated Clemson in the College Football Playoff national championship game for the 2019 season.

Stingley played at LSU for 3 seasons. He was a freshman starter on the 2019 national title squad, earning first-team All-SEC and consensus All-American recognition. Stingley was named first-team All-SEC again in 2020.

Stingley was limited by injury to only 3 games in the 2021 season. He declared for the 2022 NFL Draft and was selected No. 3 overall, trying Shawn Springs’ record of highest selection for a cornerback.

Stingley’s Texans now lead the Jags 13-6 in the 4th quarter. The game is airing on CBS.
