After cutting ties with long-time head coach Les Miles, speculation about LSU’s next coaching hire has begun in earnest.

For now, Ed Orgeron has assumed interim coaching duties, but names like Art Briles, Bobby Petrino, Lane Kiffin and Tom Herman have been among those thrown out there most often.

It may be time to cross one of those names off the list, however. According to a tweet by The Advocate’s Ross Dellenger, former LSU athletic director Skip Bertman doesn’t believe Petrino is a viable candidate.

Currently the head coach at Louisville, Petrino has his team very much in early contention for the College Football Playoff. Petrino, who is considered one of the game’s top offensive minds, has proven once again that he’s worthy of the recognition. Louisville currently leads the nation in scoring offense, averaging 63.5 points per contest, and has a legitimate Heisman contender in quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The Tigers, meanwhile, have had major offensive struggles in recent years and have been unable to find a suitable quarterback. While some fans might love the idea of Petrino’s offense coming to Baton Rouge, it looks like his many off-field issues might prevent that from happening.
