After two seasons at LSU, it’s back to the Lone Star State for Jonathan Giles.

The departed Tigers wide receiver has transferred to Texas Southern, an FCS program that competes in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Giles, from Missouri City, Texas, landed at LSU ahead of the 2017 season after transferring from Texas Tech. He had to sit out the 2017 season, but was awarded the coveted No. 7 with the Tigers to start the 2018 campaign. Brooks Kubena of The Advocate noted that Orgeron took a parting shot at Giles this spring when he discussed awarding No. 7 to Grant Delpit for the 2019 season.

“It’s a better choice than I made last year,” Orgeron said in a news conference at the time.

Giles was expected to be an impact receiver for the Tigers, but things didn’t go as planned. He logged 10 catches for 59 yards last season, a significant drop off from his 2016 season at Texas Tech (69 catches, 1,158 yards, 13 touchdowns). During the season, he switched from No. 7 to No. 12 and lost his job as the No. 1 punt returner.

247Sports reported Giles to Texas Southern on Friday night. Kubena confirmed the report on Saturday.
