With Father’s Day coming this Sunday, Ross Dellenger of The Advocate has published a feature on how fatherhood has impacted LSU RB Leonard Fournette.

The feature focuses on Fournette’s off-the-field life, but some specific games are mentioned, including LSU’s loss to Alabama. Fournette’s lackluster performance drastically changed the dynamic of both the SEC West race and the Heisman Trophy campaign.

“That was the toughest part,” he said. “Everybody was down on me: ‘Thirty-one yards and he was not what we expected.’”

But he gained something from the experience.

“It helped me deal with people,” he told Dellenger. “It made my bond with my players and coaches stronger.”

It’s evident in the feature, however, that Fournette’s strongest bond is with his daughter, Lyric:

Lyric’s day always begins with a FaceTime session with dad. Jamie’s (Lyric’s mother) phone buzzes around 6:30 a.m., just before Leonard begins morning workouts on LSU’s campus, part of Tommy Moffitt’s summer program.

They FaceTime in the evenings, too. They FaceTime on weekends during the season, when Leonard is holed up in some hotel in Tuscaloosa or Starkville.

How often do they FaceTime?

“If I FaceTime someone else,” Jamie says, “she says, ‘Dad!’ ”

The article, which takes an in-depth look at Fournette’s life as a father, is a worthwhile read for every LSU fan or anyone looking to get to know more about one of the SEC’s top players on and off the field.
