Les Miles does a weekly media tour on Wednesdays, calling into the SEC coaches teleconference, meeting with the media after LSU’s practice Wednesday evening, then hopping on his radio show. Here are a few notes from his availability this week.

  • Leonard Fournette will once again start at running back. Miles repeated that the coaching staff has thought about removing Fournette from kick return duties, but that the freshman is hard to take off the field. As they’ve done all season, the Tigers will go with whichever of the four running backs has the hot hand.
  • The blindside hit that linebacker Kendell Beckwith took from Kentucky receiver Dorian Baker in last Saturday’s 41-3 win, which Miles sent to the SEC for review, either was not ruled targeting or was not reviewed.
  • With ESPN’s College GameDay coming to Baton Rouge for LSU’s game against No. 3 Ole Miss on Saturday, Miles was asked about his choice for the show’s traditional guest picker. He said he’d go with LSU alumnus and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, although the big man has prior engagements and is likely not going to be chosen.
  • Miles was also asked about pop star Katy Perry, the guest picker when GameDay went to Ole Miss a few weeks ago. Miles was told about Perry making fun of LSU fans by holding up a plate of corn dogs, then throwing them into the crowd. He was a bit confused at first, asking if Perry likes corn dogs. Once the situation was explained, Miles said he’s never smelled corn dogs in Tiger Stadium.
