When the LSU Tigers take on the Louisville Cardinals in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve, Dave Aranda and the LSU defense will have the unenviable task of trying to slow down likely Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson.

The Louisville quarterback has accounted for 51 touchdowns this season — 30 through the air and 21 on the ground.

Aranda spoke with The Advocate about the talented Jackson, saying the Tigers have their work cut out for them if they want to stop the dual-threat Cardinal star:

“I’m at the airport here. I was just watching film of him waiting to jump on this plane,” Aranda said. “There’s times where when you pressure him, he scrambles. When you don’t pressure him, he passes the ball and completes bombs. That’s the problem and that’s what’s unique about him.”

After allowing three fourth-quarter touchdowns in a Thanksgiving night victory over Texas A&M, Aranda said he wants to see a more complete effort from his unit against the Cardinals:

“I look at the opportunity in this bowl game to play four quarters on defense,” Aranda said. “For everything we’ve talked about as a defense and have accomplished, what we have not done is play four quarters, from start to finish, and complete a game.”

The Tigers and Cardinals will square off on Saturday, Dec. 31, at 10 a.m. Central time. The game can be seen on ABC.
