Two weeks after dropping its bowl game, LSU dropped out of the final AP Top 25, released Tuesday morning. It marks the first time since 2008 that the Tigers finished outside the final rankings.

The Tigers (8-5, 4-4) dropped from No. 22 in the final regular season polls, receiving just 12 points in the voting, down from 30 points in the previous poll. LSU lost the Music City Bowl to Notre Dame, 31-28, on a last-second field goal.

LSU finished the season losing three of its final four games, concluding the worst season of Les Miles’ tenure in Baton Rouge. That included two of its final three SEC games, which came after surging to contention with three straight wins over conference opponents.

As of Tuesday morning, LSU is looking shakier than expected. Defensive coordinator John Chavis left for Texas A&M following the bowl loss, and Miles has yet to fill the position.
