LSU assistant Frank Wilson is reportedly “in the mix” to receive a big boost to his career. The Troy football program is reportedly looking at Wilson as a candidate for its head coaching position, according to coachingsearch.com.

Wilson, LSU’s running backs coach and recruiting coordinator, is one of two SEC coaches mentioned in the report; Ole Miss offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator Matt Luke is the other.

Wilson is in his fifth season at LSU and is considered a big part of the Tigers’ recruiting success. Since he’s come to Baton Rouge, four of the Tigers’ five recruiting classes have been ranked in the top 10 nationally by various outlets. LSU’s running game is among the best in the nation, and Wilson has also coached a slew of NFL-bound running backs, including current NFL rookies Jeremy Hill and Alfred Blue.

Troy coach Larry Blakeney is retiring at the end of the season after a 24-year run as the Trojans’ head coach. Blakeney oversaw Troy’s transition from the FCS to FBS, and won five straight Sun Belt Conference championships from 2006-10.
