After snagging the game-sealing interception against Ole Miss on Saturday, LSU safety Ronald Martin has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame announced Monday. The award is given to the country’s best defensive back annually.

With just seconds remaining on the clock on Saturday, Ole Miss decided to forgo a long field goal attempt for one last chance at picking up a few yards. Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace went deep, and Martin swooped in to intercept the pass, putting the finishing touches on LSU’s 10-7 win. Martin leads LSU with 7 pass breakups and is tied for the team lead with 2 interceptions. The senior has started every game for the Tigers this season and has recorded 48 tackles.

The SEC is well-represented on the list, with four total semifinalists. The other three are Alabama junior Landon Collins and Ole Miss seniors Senquez Golson and Cody Prewitt.
