On Thursday, Les Miles officially parted ways with LSU when both parties agreed to a settlement on his remaining buyout.

Now the former Tigers coach is reportedly a few steps away from joining a new school.

According to a Friday report from Sports Illustrated, Kansas is in the final stages of a deal that would make Miles its next coach. Miles has been strongly linked to the job since the Jayhawks announced on Nov. 4 that they would not retain current coach David Beaty following this season.

After winning 77 percent of his games and a national championship in more than 11 years in Baton Rouge, Miles was fired following a last-second loss at Auburn in September 2016. That defeat dropped a preseason top-five team to just 2-2 and was the last straw for Miles, who nearly lost his job at the end of the previous season.

Miles has been actively looking a new gig ever since, and it looks like Kansas believes the 65-year-old can drag its football program up from the bottom of the Big 12.
