Ever since legendary artist Prince passed away last month, many musicians have paid tribute by covering the artist, especially his megahit “Purple Rain.” In most cases, the cover is dedicated to the late singer, but country artist Darius Rucker dedicated his performance at Bayou Country Superfest to the LSU football team and coach Les Miles.

Rucker, a South Carolina alumnus and noted Gamecocks superfan, paid tribute to Miles and LSU for the hospitality offered in wake of the flooding around Columbia S.C. The weather situation caused the LSU-South Carolina set to be played in Williams-Brice Stadium to be moved to Death Valley at the relative last minute.

“They treated us so well,” Rucker told the crowd, according to The Times-Picayune. “I appreciate Les Miles and the whole athletic department. … This goes out to Coach Miles and his team.”

LSU went to great lengths to make the Oct. 10 game played in Death Valley, which the Tigers won 45-24, feel as much like a South Carolina home game as possible, flying the South Carolina state flag at the stadium and putting up “Geaux Gamecocks” signs and banners. The LSU band even learned and played the South Carolina fight song.
