The Mississippi State Bulldogs have a much-needed bye this weekend after a pair of tough losses to Georgia and Auburn.

Now, coach Dan Mullen and his squad have some time to rest and work on some things that need to improve.

One of those things is quarterback play, as star QB Nick Fitzgerald hasn’t been his usual dominant self the past two weeks.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Mullen put it simply, saying Fitzgerald simply needs to be better if the Bulldogs are going to get back to their winning ways (via 247Sports):

On that game, the last game?” he asked. “I mean just got to get better. He’s got to get better. We talked about it.

“But this is a great week to go work fundamentals. So we’re working on a lot of technique and fundamentals this week.”

Following the bye, the Bulldogs will host BYU in a game they should win. From there, the Kentucky Wildcats come to town for homecoming.

If Fitzgerald can put up big numbers on the ground and through the air in those two games, the Bulldogs should get their season back on track.
