Following his team’s 45-31 win over Kentucky on Saturday, Dan Mullen met with the media in Starkville. The coach shared his thoughts on a variety of topics, from Dak Prescott’s recent interceptions to offensive linemen wanting to throw passes.

  • Mullen feels that the combination of Dak Prescott and Josh Robinson forces teams to defend the Bulldogs all over the field. Having Robinson performing so well alongside Prescott has taken pressure and attention of the quarterback. Having 10 players that have caught touchdowns this season allows Mullen to be diverse.
  • Prescott’s recent interviews are all a bit different to Mullen. On the interception the quarterback threw against Kentucky, Mullen would have liked to see his quarterback attempt a checkdown instead of heaving it deep as he got hit. Mullen approved of the decision Prescott made when he was picked off in the end zone against Auburn due to the one-on-one coverage he correctly read. Mullen said that he only gets upset when his quarterback makes bad decisions. Since Mississippi State has only lost the turnover battle once this season, Mullen isn’t overly frustrated, but he is trying to correct each mistake.
  • Arkansas is a different kind of challenge to prepare for, with its power running game, although State saw a similar offense not long ago with LSU. Mullen said everyone in the SEC is a bit different, so the defense will look a bit different than it has in recent weeks.
  • Mullen said that Jameon Lewis was not 100 percent against Kentucky after talking with trainers before the game. Lewis got a few reps against the Wildcats, which Mullen thinks will help the senior receiver’s confidence.
  • After Arkansas had a lineman throw a touchdown pass last week, Mullen commented on his own linemen’s passing abilities. He said that Blaine Clausell has “a hose” and that he threw the ball 75 yards in practice recently.
