What Dan Mullen said after Mississippi State's double overtime loss to BYU
In an unusual Friday night game, the Mississippi State Bulldogs traveled to Provo to take on the BYU Cougars at 9:15 p.m. Central time.
Despite a strong defensive effort, the Bulldogs couldn’t score enough on offense and saw regulation come to an end with the score tied at 14.
In the first overtime, both teams scored a touchdown, but in double overtime, the Cougars scored and then stopped Mississippi State to earn a 28-21 victory.
Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen was short with reporters following the loss, speaking for only three minutes and giving matter-of-fact answers.
Here’s what he had to say after falling to 2-4 on the season:
On his players’ performance:
When asked how players performed, Mullen just read the stats from the box score.

On the coaching strategy:
Mullen: "We just didn't do a good enough job as coaches to get them ready to make the plays they needed to win."

On the officiating:
The one thing he did say was he's never been a part of a game where one official called four personal foul penalties.

I asked him how officiating affected the game, he just repeated his answer and said that's a fact.
