Mississippi State gained some future depth for its defensive line on Monday.

Montez Sweat, a former Michigan State defensive end, committed to the Bulldogs early Monday afternoon, according to scout.com’s Steve Robertson.

The redshirt sophomore left Michigan State earlier this spring because of personal reasons. Spartans coach Mark Dantonio suspended Sweat last September, but he was a candidate to earn a starting role in 2016.

A 6-foot-6, 230-pound pass rusher, Sweat showed flashes of upside that should excite Bulldogs fans. He will spend the 2016 season at the JUCO level playing for Copiah-Lincoln Community College and will be a member of Mississippi State’s 2017 class.
