On Dec. 26, the Mississippi State Bulldogs will take on Miami, Ohio in the St. Pete Bowl.

Dan Mullen’s team (5-7) was a last-minute selection after thumping rival Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl. The victory technically made MSU bowl-eligible — and the St. Pete Bowl committee deemed the Bulldogs worthy of a spot in the game (primarily based upon MSU’s high APR score).

ESPN’s Football Power Index looked at all of the bowl matchups from this season, and determined that Mississippi State has the highest percent-chance of winning compared to any other team:

Miami, Ohio had a very strange season. It started the season 0-6 — before ripping off six-straight victories. They are known for being a defensive-minded team. Without question, the RedHawks will hope to turn this contest into a slug-it-out, ugly affair.

Both teams have considerable momentum heading into the game. It will be fascinating to see this contrasting of styles between two dissimilar teams.
