Mississippi State will try to hand LSU its first loss of the 2019 season Saturday, but before and after the game, Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead is as friendly with some members of the LSU coaching staff as anyone in the SEC.

In Wednesday’s teleconference, Moorhead shared the details of his relationship with both LSU head coach Ed Orgeron and passing game coordinator Joe Brady.

Moorhead called Orgeron “an unbelievable guy” on Wednesday and said they sit next to each other at the coaching meetings. The Mississippi State coach also said he appreciates the support he’s received from Orgeron this season. Moorhead has received some public criticism for Mississippi State’s 3-3 start to 2019.

As for the Tigers passing game coordinator Moorhead said he and Brady talk “a bunch in the offseason.” Despite his young age, Moorhead credited Brady’s experience and knowledge as the reason he and the LSU passing game are having so much success early this season.

Here’s what else Moorhead said on Wednesday:

  • Challenges of installing a scheme and Josh Gattis doing that at Michigan: It’s different at different places, it depends on the players you have, how easily they pick it up… I really have only seen one Michigan so I’m not really sure about Gattis and Harbaugh’s progression there.
  • On this week’s game: Facing No. 2 team, averaging 55 points a game, Davis Wade gives us an edge… our home record is good historically and recently, our fans provide an unbelievable home-field advantage
