Mississippi State plans on keeping Dan Mullen happy in Starkville for as long as possible as the school has just announced a four-year extension for its head football coach. Mullen is now signed with MSU through the 2021 season.

Mullen, now entering his ninth season with Mississippi State, is now scheduled to make $4.5 million for the 2017 season. In his eight years at the school, Mullen has racked up an overall record of 61-42 with a 28-35 SEC record.

“Dan has brought unprecedented success to Bulldog football and is one of the elite coaches in the country,” Mississippi State AD John Cohen said in a released statement. “From a school-record seven straight bowl games to our performance in the classroom, he continues to raise the standard of excellence.”

Dan Mullen also had this to say in the prepared statement.

“I am very thankful to the University and athletic administration for their belief in me,” Mullen said. “We have built a special program over the last eight years, creating a culture where winning is expected while achieving that in the toughest division in college football. I am proud of what we have accomplished, and I am truly excited about the direction we are heading as a program. This extension allows my family a long-term future here in Starkville, a place we are proud to call home.”

Mullen is four wins away from becoming the second-winningest coach in school history and only 12 wins away from passing Jackie Sherrill in becoming the school’s all-time winningest coach. Mullen has also coached three players that finished as Top 10 Heisman finalists on five separate occasions – Dak Prescott (2014 – 8th), Tim Tebow (2009 – 5th), Tim Tebow (2008 – 3rd), Tim Tebow (2007 – 1st) and Alex Smith (2004 – 4th).
