Mississippi State’s 2018 signing class just got a little lighter.

Two Bulldog signees at the wide receiver position will go to junior college instead of trying to make an impact on to the field in Starkville, according to Brett Hudson of The Dispatch.

The two signees that won’t make it are Malik Heath and Johnquarise Patterson. The move leaves MSU with three wide receivers from a list of 20 players who have already enrolled in classes:

MSU confirmed to The Dispatch that Malik Heath and Johnquarise Patterson will not be attending MSU and will be going to junior college. The Dispatch has learned Heath will go to Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Patterson will go to Jones County Junior College.

Heath, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 205 pounds, came out of Callaway High School in Jackson, Miss. As a four-star recruit, he stands to be the more significant loss. Patterson had decommitted when Dan Mullen left before recommitting in February.

While these losses hurt now, Joe Moorhead has shown he won’t shy away from recruiting the junior college ranks to help his MSU program. Enrollee and three-star linebacker Sh’mar Kilby-Lane, as well as four-star wide receiver Stephen Guidry both, took the community college route to join Joe Moorhead’s program.

The only player from the 2018 recruiting class that remains in limbo at this point is three-star running back La’damian Webb.
