SB Nation released a report on Tuesday morning regarding an on-campus assault at Mississippi State involving an undergraduate student and multiple MSU football players.

Per the report, Jamie Meyers, a 21-year-old junior at Mississippi State, claims he was assaulted on campus by two Bulldogs football players: redshirt freshmen Grant Harris, a defensive tackle, and Brandon Bryant, a defensive back. SB Nation claims to have obtained affidavits “sworn out in Oktibbeha County Justice Court on March 2 and March 4 and signed by Judge Georgia Alexander” that cite both Harris and Bryant.

Harris is listed as committing felony assault, while Bryant is listed as causing bodily injuries.

However, this all comes one day after a third MSU football player — offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins — was reportedly arrested by university police in connection with the assault. The SB Nation report states Jenkins was allegedly present at the assault as well.

This is where it gets interesting. According to Meyers’ attorney, the MSU junior only signed affidavits against Harris and Bryant and not against Jenkins, which brings Jenkins’ initial arrest into question.

“We were told Jenkins was arrested in connection with the assault on my client,” Meyers’ attorney, Robert Wilkins, told SB Nation. “If there is an affidavit against Jenkins, you’d have to ask the prosecutor and the Mississippi State Police Department. My client signed an affidavit against Grant Harris and Brandon Bryant.

“It’s highly unusual for the affidavits to be sworn and then not served without arrests and then a third party is arrested,” Wilkins continued. “In my 15 years I’ve never seen anything like this.”

Mississippi State responded to the report with an official statement released just after 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
