According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, citing a source, Mississippi State will play Miami (Ohio) in the St. Petersburg Bowl.

Although Mississippi State finished 5-7 on the season, the program’s Academic Progress Rate was ranked high enough to notch a bowl appearance.

Mississippi State was tied with Texas at 3rd in APR rankings to end the season, and because of the lack of bowl eligible teams, MSU was rewarded for its high APR.

The St. Petersburg Bowl Game is scheduled for December 26 at 11 a.m. ET at Tropicana Field.

The announcement will be official on Sunday.
