Missouri (1-1) quarterback Drew Lock tied a school record with five touchdown passes as the Tigers earned their first win of the season in a 61-21 blowout over Eastern Michigan last weekend, amassing their highest total offense (647 yards) since Sept. 17, 2011.

With its conference opener against No. 16 Georgia just a few days away, here’s what coach Barry Odom had to say during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference.

On the passing game going from worst to first after two games:

“You mentioned only two games in, we have to continue to progress. We’ve seen much better quarterback play plus the 10 guys around him, including those who have been protecting him. No one has outworked the quarterback room plus the talent to go along with it.”

On the early defensive struggles:

“We weren’t great last year after the first two games. We still have the ability to be a great defense. We expect to be good at whatever we are doing, and our focus is preparing the right way.”

On playing four consecutive home games to open the 2017 season:

“Anytime we have a chance to open at home is great for the fans and the guys. I tried to get all 12 at home but somehow we didn’t get that done.”

On the challenges of facing Georgia’s pass defense:

“They have great coaches, great schemes. They are going to make plays; they have great players. We have to play one snap at a time. The process of not pressing too much but putting everything you have into that snap is the challenge. It’s been a very good first couple days of work.”

On facing Georgia’s pass rush and continuing to protect the QB:

“Getting rid of the ball quick, the route concept, etc., all of that goes into it. How they play defensive football factors in, too.”

On Georgia’s quarterback rotation:

“Both guys are skilled and present problems for us. We have to be aware of when they come into the game, because it’s difficult to plan for them. Both run the offense well and if your eyes are in the wrong spot, they will exploit you.”

On offensive linemen Paul Adams and Tyler Howell:

“I’m excited about that group, they continue to improve and they have embraced pass blocking. As soon as I bring up someone’s name though, they fail to play well the next day. That group had a good day of practice yesterday, collectively they have made strides.”
