Mizzou, Purdue announce home-and-home series

NCAA Football: Arizona State at Missouri

It’s been a reoccurring theme this offseason. Teams are putting future home-and-home series on the schedule, and it should benefit college football.

Missouri and Purdue announced a home-and-home series for 2017-18. The Tigers will host the Boilermakers on September 16, 2017, and Purdue will host Mizzou on September 15, 2018.

“We’re pleased to add a quality opponent such as Purdue to our schedule,” said Missouri executive associate athletic director Bryan Maggard said in a release. “We feel like this is an attractive game for many reasons, and that it provides a name opponent within traveling distance that will allow our fans the chance to see a new location and follow the Tigers on the road.”

Purdue leads the series 6-2, with their last win coming against the Tigers in the 1980 Liberty Bowl 28-25.

Mizzou satisfies the SEC’s mandate of having one Big Five opponent per year for 2017-18.

  • Very good schedule addition. This is a long running nearly unbroken series where Missouri has a Big Ten (or Pac Ten) opponent. Missouri won nearly all the Illinois challenges, then split with Arizona State when they missed the overtime field goal down there. Now they have to beat Indiana at home to complete that sweep, so who will the 2015 Big Five opponent be? Has that one been scheduled?

    • Purdue went bowling twice in last 4 years, v Oklahoma State etc., but the more impressive part of their record is checking how they often play against big name opponents beating or one score games with Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan State, Michigan, Minnesota, for a look at this go to FBS schedules Purdue 2009 thru 2013
