Former Mizzou defensive lineman Charles Harris has one of the best stories in the entire NFL Draft.

Harris, a former two-star prospect, wasn’t hyped entering Missouri, but once he set foot on campus, he started wowing coaches and players immediately. In fact, I had a father of a former Missouri offensive player text me after Harris set foot on campus, and he said, “Remember this name: Charles Harris. He’ll be the next great Missouri defensive lineman and a future first-round pick.”

I’d say he wasn’t lying.

The Miami Dolphins drafted Harris with the No. 22 overall pick, and one big factor sold Harris to the Dolphins, even though the team didn’t spend much time with him during the pre-draft process.

“Great character guy,” a high-level Dolphins employee said as he left the training facility just before midnight Thursday (via Miami Herald). “Also a really good player. It made it easy on all of us.”

As the author points out, when Harris was drafted by the Dolphins, two other talented players were on the board: Alabama LB Reuben Foster and Ohio State CB Gareon Conley, and both dropped Thursday night because of off-the-field issues that teams saw as red flags.

“This guy loves football,” general manager Chris Grier said about Harris. “It’s very important to him.”

While getting a high character guy is great for NFL teams, they have to produce on the field. But that’s all Harris ever did at Missouri.
