Giants GM thinks former Ole Miss QB Eli Manning is 'on the back nine' of his career
In the aftermath of the New York Giants’ 38-13 wildcard playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday evening, Giants GM Jerry Reese admitted the team has started to think about the future of its quarterback position.
Former Ole Miss QB Eli Manning didn’t exactly struggle in the game, throwing for 299 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also didn’t get much help from his receivers, who dropped several important passes.
However, as Manning enters this offseason and begins to prepare for his 14th NFL season, Reese knows there isn’t much time left in the two-time Super Bowl winner’s career:
Jerry Reese on 36-year old Eli Manning: "He's probably on the back nine but I don't think it's ancient for a quarterback.''

The current backup to Manning is veteran Josh Johnson, who probably isn’t the answer once Manning retires. Therefore, it’s time for Reese and his staff to start putting together a succession plan before their hands are forced:
Jerry Reese; "Eli is 36 and we have started to think about who’s the next quarterback, who’s in line.''

Ryan Nassib, a third-year quarterback out of Syracuse, is also on the team’s roster, but was injured in 2016.
Don’t be surprised if the Giants take a quarterback in the upcoming NFL draft. If they want to stick with former Ole Miss players, QB Chad Kelly will be available in the middle rounds or later.
