Ole Miss was hit hard by the injury bug last season. First it was linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche breaking his leg, and in the bowl game star left tackle Laremy Tunsil suffered a broken leg as well. The most publicized of the Rebels’ injuries was receiver Laquon Treadwell, who suffered nasty leg and ankle injuries while trying to score what would have been the go-ahead touchdown late in a loss to Auburn.

Treadwell met with the media Tuesday night to discuss his recovery and the Ole Miss quarterback situation.

The rising junior receiver says he’s running routes “against air” and that he still has to think about the injury “a little bit” when he’s moving around, but that his recovery is going well.

“It’s getting better every day,” Treadwell said. “I’m out there with my teammates, getting my rhythm. I don’t think it’s going to go on any longer. I’ll probably get my rhythm back in a couple of weeks.”

Treadwell displayed confidence about his recovery, saying he “didn’t at all” doubt that he’d make it back to full strength after the injury. He said that, despite having to sit out while he recovers and some turnover on the offensive side, he and his teammates are doing their best to build chemistry during spring drills.

“I think after a couple weeks, we’ll be ready to go,” Treadwell said.

Treadwell hasn’t gotten a chance to work with Ole Miss’ potential replacements for Bo Wallace yet, but he’s been watching closely. He likes what he’s seen out of Chad Kelly, considered the favorite to win the starting job.

“Chad is competing. He’s learning, he’s making plays. Every day he’s competing and I think that’s going to help the team a lot,” Treadwell said of the JUCO transfer.

Treadwell added that all three quarterbacks — Kelly, Devante Kincade and Ryan Buchanan — have all looked sharp and are learning as they get their first chance at the starting job.
