The Minnesota Vikings didn’t get much return from its 2016 first round pick. After appearing in only nine games his rookie season, former Ole Miss receiver Laquon Treadwell was targetted only three times and came away with a single catch for 15 yards.

Now entering his second offseason with the club, Treadwell is expected to finally make his presence felt after having a season to adjust to the NFL game. During Minnesota’s recent OTAs, Pat Shurmur, the team’s offensive coordinator, shared some praise for the second-year pro.

“He’s had a great, in my opinion, five-and-a-half weeks,” Shurmur said according to ESPN staff writer Ben Goessling. “He came back and he was really on point with what he’s supposed to be doing mentally. He’s been out here competing and doing a nice job running routes and catching the ball. Understanding where he fits in the running game and who to block. To this point, we’ve been really pleased with his progress based on a year ago.”

After being taken with the 26th overall selection in the previous NFL Draft, the Vikings are going to need Treadwell to quickly display some ability on the field before being labeled a complete bust. Judging by the comments of his offensive coordinator, Treadwell is a long way from earning that label but it’s clear his pro career hasn’t even begun to take off a year at coming into the league.
