The Ole Miss Rebels lost potential starting RB Jordan Wilkins to an ankle injury last week and the senior hasn’t been able to practice since.

However, on Tuesday, the Rebels got some good news, as a potential return date has been set for the talented back.

According to OleMissSports.com, coach Matt Luke said after Tuesday’s practice that he thinks Wilkins could make his return to the field by the end of this week, or perhaps early next week.

Luke said it’s important to have a healthy backfield, as he believes the Rebels’ passing game will open plenty of holes for the running backs:

“I think it’s just being consistent,” Luke said. “I think with the receivers we have, there are going to be some opportunities to run the football because they’re going to have to play coverage some to respect those guys. When we have those opportunities, you’ve got to be able to execute.”

As a sophomore in 2015, Wilkins ran for 379 yards and four touchdowns. He missed the entire 2016 season due to an academic error.
