Senquez Golson has been named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given to the nation’s defensive player of the year.

The Pascagoula, Miss., native’s sensational senior season has led the Ole Miss defense to the top spot in college football in scoring defense.

Golson leads the SEC and ranks second in college football with nine interceptions, second-most in a single season at Ole Miss. He’s registered at least one interception in the Rebels’ last five conference games.

In addition, Golson has recorded 29 tackles, seven pass breakups and two quarterback hurries.

His 15 career interceptions bests all of college football, and are tied for fourth all-time at Ole Miss.

Golson is also a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award and Jim Thorpe Award.

Ole Miss’ only other Nagurski Trophy finalist was Patrick Willis in 2006.

The winner of the Nagurski Trophy will be announced Dec. 8.
