It isn’t even close. The Southeastern Conference has one quarterback who has set himself apart from the pack.

Phil Steele acknowledged such in his latest article, featuring the top-15 quarterback situations entering this college football season. Right behind Clemson’s Deshaun Watson at No. 1 is Ole Miss’ Chad Kelly.

“Chad Kelly broke or tied 14 school records in his first year at Ole Miss,” Steele said. “The 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior threw for 4,042 yards (65.1 percent completion, 31-13 touchdown-to-interception ratio) with 500 rushing yards. He has a huge arm, is mobile and threw for 341 yards to deal Alabama its only home loss in three years. His backup should be true freshman Shea Patterson.”

Steele goes on to list the rest of his top-50, and the second quarterback situation to be named from the SEC is Tennessee’s, ranking at No. 18. Following the Volunteers are Texas A&M at No. 36, LSU at No. 39, Alabama at No. 44, Georgia at No. 48 and Auburn at No. 50.

Is there any chance Kelly doesn’t finish as the SEC’s top signal caller this season?
