In 2013, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze brought four five-star and seven four-star recruits to Oxford for what was a historic Rebels recruiting class.

The quartet of five stars — defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche, offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and defensive back Tony Conner — have all played crucial roles for Ole Miss the last two years. They’re now juniors soon facing the decision to return to school or enter the NFL.

But they aren’t the only members of the Rebels’ 2013 class that have become major contributors.

Former four-star quarterback Ryan Buchanan and former three-star quarterback DeVante Kincade both found themselves competing with Chad Kelly for the starting job this season. Although Kelly has been named the starter, Buchanan and Kincade both saw plenty of action in the Rebels’ first two games and could see more moving forward in certain situations.

Wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo and tight end Evan Engram were both three-star recruits out of the 2013 class that have emerged as starters and playmakers on the Ole Miss offense. Fadol Brown, unrated because he transferred from Florida International in 2013, is now an impactful starter on the Rebels’ stout defensive front.

As mentioned before, several players from this vaunted class will be playing on Sundays next year, while others return for their senior seasons. But regardless of which players do what, it appears this will be the 2013 recruiting class’ last season all together in Oxford.

As a result, we decided to follow the members of the 2013 class and how they play throughout the Rebels’ season by noting standout performances from them. Here’s how they did in the Rebels’ Week 5 loss to Florida:

ROBERT NKEMDICHE, DL

This was one of Nkemdiche’s quietest performances of his college career. He not only had a pedestrian day on defense, recording just one tackle, Nkemdiche also failed to touch the ball on offense this week, which started to become a weekly occurrence for the Rebels. Having one of its stars struggle certainly did not help Ole Miss against Florida.

LAREMY TUNSIL, LT

Tunsil was held out of this game due to an ongoing NCAA investigation regarding alleged contact between Tunsil and agents. This was the fifth game in a row that Tunsil was held out for this reason. Freeze has not yet said whether Tunsil will play in the Rebels’ sixth game against New Mexico State and made it clear that he has nothing to do with the NCAA’s investigative process. However, Freeze did say that he expects to hear something this week on Tunsil’s status and the progress of the investigation.

LAQUON TREADWELL, WR

Treadwell led the Rebels in receiving in Week 5, but unfortunately for Ole Miss, that’s not saying much. In his matchup with All-SEC cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III, Treadwell finished with just five receptions for 42 yards. He has had a few nice games this season, but for the most part, Treadwell is struggling to get back to the level of play that put him in consideration as a potential first-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft.

JORDAN WILKINS, RB

Ole Miss found very little running room against the stout Florida defensive front. In fact, quarterback Chad Kelly led the Rebels in rushing with 40 yards mostly because he was running for his life behind an offensive line that seemingly left its blocking ability in Tuscaloosa. Wilkins carried the ball just six times and was unable to make the most of his limited opportunities by only compiling 11 yards on the ground.

EVAN ENGRAM, TE

Engram is not having the type of year that made him an All-SEC tight end last season. He and Kelly are clearly not on the same page, and that’s reflected in Engram’s numbers. He finished the game against Florida with three receptions for 41 yards. A tight end can be a quarterback’s best friend, especially if that quarterback is under constant pressure. So Kelly might want to think about getting Engram involved in the offense more.

QUINCY ADEBOYEJO, WR

After being held without a catch in Week 4, Adeboyejo hauled in two Kelly passes for 31 yards against the Gators. It wasn’t easy for any Rebels receiver to get open against the talented Florida secondary, but Adeboyejo was at least able to beat them a few times, including once deep downfield for 22 yards.

FADOL BROWN, DE

Like Nkemdiche, Brown had a very disappointing day on the stat sheet. He recorded just one tackle and one quarterback hurry. The defense, as a whole, did not look good against the Gators by allowing 38 points, but Ole Miss will really need Nkemdiche and Brown, in particular, to play better in its remaining games in order to be successful.
