Losing Laquon Treadwell and Cody Core certainly hurt the Ole Miss receiving corps heading into the 2016 season.

However, the cupboard isn’t bare in Oxford, as senior WR Quincy Adeboyejo will attempt to prove this year.

Though Adeboyejo failed to add any weight to his 195-pound frame, he’s confident he’ll be able to handle the increased blocking requirements given to outside receivers like Treadwell and Core last year.

“I had a whole spring on the outside,” he said, “and I feel like it’s coming along even more.”

Adeboyejo caught 38 passes for 604 yards in 2015 and will need to improve those numbers in 2016 as a larger part of the Rebels’ offense.

Though he’ll spend more time on the outside this season, the Rebels will also make sure the senior’s versatility is featured in the offensive game plan:

“He’s kind of like a swing guy for me,” wide receivers coach Grant Heard said. “I can play him inside, I can play him outside, because he has done it. I feel good about putting him anywhere because he is smart and he can handle it and his skillset allows him to be able to play both.”

More important than gaining extra weight was working on a new frame of mind, Adeboyejo said. He believes he’s succeeded in that regard:

“On the outside, you see a lot more press,” he said. “The guys want to put their hands on you. You’ve got to be strong out there, and you block a lot more for sure. I feel like my mindset has changed. I feel like I can play at the weight I’m at.”

Adeboyejo will get a chance to show his skills at his new position when the Rebels open their 2016 campaign on Monday, Sept. 5, against Florida State.
