The Kansas City Chiefs drafted former Ole Miss DL/LB Breeland Speaks in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, adding him to a talented group of pass rushers that Justin Houston, Dee Ford, Chris Jones and others.

This weekend, Speaks is getting his first taste of NFL action, as the Chiefs are hosting a three-day rookie minicamp.

After Saturday’s first session, Speaks said he was feeling confident in his abilities. The NFL can psyche some players out, but once he got back to work, Speaks settled into his new role (via KansasCity.com):

“My first reaction I had was, I could do this,” said Speaks. “I’m feeling pretty good about things so far.”

Speaks will likely be a backup in his first year, but that doesn’t mean he won’t make an impact this fall.

There’s still a long way to go, but if Speaks continues to gain confidence, he could be in for a big rookie season.
