After what looked to be a gruesome injury, Tennessee punter Matt Darr will likely play against Arkansas State. During his weekly press conference, head coach Butch Jones confirmed that his starting punter would participate in practice Tuesday and should be ready for Saturday’s game against Arkansas State.

“Matt Darr will be at practice today,” Jones said. “He will be fine. He just rolled his ankle. He will go through punt period and practice”

Darr took an awkward fall following a punt in the 4th quarter of Tennessee’s 38-7 victory over Utah State Sunday. Prior to the injury, Darr had an impressive showing with 298 net yards and a 37.3 average in the season opener. His longest punt of the game was a 53-harder on Tennessee’s opening drive.

The redshirt senior has made 18 career appearances for Tennessee since 2011. Darr served as the Vols’ starting punter during his freshman and sophomore seasons before losing the job to Michael Palardy in 2012. He spent the entire 2013 season as a backup before reclaiming the starting role this offseason in Palardy’s absence. The California native was a U.S. Army All-American punter and the No. 1 punting prospect by punting expert Chris Sailer.

Tennessee will host Arkansas State on Saturday at 12:00 pm ET. The Red Wolves are coming off a 37-10 win over Montana State and were 8-5 (5-2) last season.
