SEC Football News on Saturday Down South

Already 11 SEC decommitments in December

NEW: Follow on facebook -

We’re only on our 19th day of December, and already 11 SEC commitments have dropped their original school this month. It’s that time of year, folks, when the cold feet prevail, kids start thinking about homesickness … colleges change their minds.

And ultimately, kids drop and switch schools. It happens more and more every year.

Saturday Down South has the SEC decommitment count at 46 as of Dec. 19, and that number will continue to rise through national signing day.

This week alone, blue chip DB Laurence ‘Hootie’ Jones backed off of his short commitment to Alabama while four-star DB C.J. Hampton dropped Ole Miss (and may end up picking Bama this week). JUCO star DaVonte Lambert switched from Tennessee to Auburn and Norman Price switched from Mississippi State to Southern MIss. The opening of the junior college signing period helped stoke things a bit.

  1. Honestly don’t blame Stanley Williams for decommitting from UGA with Chubbs and Sony coming in. Hope we can get Russell back, but I think the Iron Bowl may have changed his life forever. Heck, if I was there in person too I might have jumped on the wagon.

  2. Markel Smith only said wanted to wait before deciding then he tried to re-commit to Missouri but they already replaced him. It probably worked out best for both.
