Florida coach Will Muschamp landed a big one Thursday, easily the Gators’ biggest commitment since early August.
David Sharpe, a 6-foot-6, 290-pound lineman who moves like someone much smaller, is on board with the Gators–even with the turnover on the coaching staff at the offensive coordinator and line coach positions. Sharpe has been rated a five-star prospect at times, but is now considered a four-star lineman.
He made the decision at a local restaurant in his hometown of Jacksonville (Fla.). Sharpe had tried several times since November to set up the announcement, but kept postponing for various reasons.
It’s a huge pickup, as the Gators need top offensive linemen and they need to make an impression that they can still compete, recruiting wise. Georgia, Tennessee and Florida State were also considered contenders, and Tennessee had gotten an official visit from him, while Georgia had received several unofficial trips.
He is rated No. 87 overall, nationally, and the No. 8 offensive tackle.
