Five-star defensive end has a decision date and a plan

Jashon Cornell is a Minnesota native, and he’ll probably stay close to home when he picks his school. Schools in the Big Ten and Notre Dame seem to have the best shot at landing him.

But he reports he does have SEC offers from Ole Miss, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Mizzou and Florida, and Cornell (6-4/270) hasn’t ruled them out. He trekked to the state of Mississippi for unofficial visits in February and has a good friend at Arkansas in 2014 signee Frank Ragnow (who is also from Minnesota). He was also on Mizzou’s campus last year.

Still probably longshots, but worth mentioning. Also, Cornell–who is rated a five-star prospect and the No. 30 prospect in the nation overall–knows that he wants to announce his college destination on Aug 28. This is the first day of school at his high school–Cretin-Derham–and also the team’s first game.

Editor’s note: Saturday Down South’s references to ratings follow the composite rankings.
