High school recruits are wide-eyed when they see their future college team win big games like Auburn did Saturday. Junior college prospects salivate because they know they could already be there.
They’re just hungrier.
That was the case Saturday with Xavier Dampeer and Derrick Moncrief, two of Auburn’s impressive junior college commitments who plan to be lifting weights with the Tigers in just a few weeks. They’ll be on campus in January as early enrollees, and they plan to sign letters of intent as early as next Wednesday, when the junior college signing period begins.
They were fidgety watching Auburn’s showing in the SEC championship game. They know they could already be out there, and it fires them up.
Dampeer is rated the No. 2 JUCO center in the nation.
“I loved every moment of it,” Dampeer told Saturday Down South. “We have the best rushing attack in the nation, and the future is bright for Auburn. I believe that the prospects we have come in are going to be electric and hopefully contribute to the team in a positive manner … immediately.”
Moncrief, a four-star JUCO DB, agreed.
“The performance was great,” Moncrief told SDS. “They fought all four quarters and never gave in. The future is bright because young guys want to come in and play for Coach (Gus) Malzahn and the coaching staff.”
