Auburn’s 2015 quarterback situation is a bit interesting.
The Tigers already have a four-star guy on board (Tyler Queen) but the coaching staff is relentlessly pursuing another QB. Everybody in the world wants Torrance Gibson, of course, but it seems Tennessee and Ohio State are the frontrunners for the five-star quarterback, and he doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to go public with his decision. Two other top targets for Auburn’s staff are Kai Locksley–the son of former SEC assistant and current Maryland assistant Mike Locksley–and Texas native Chason Virgil.
Auburn will get a key unofficial visit from Virgil next weekend during its A-Day game. The four-star QB said he’d like to make his decision at the end of May, and its obvious he’ll be watching what some of the other guys do first. He’s also seriously considering Clemson and Arizona State. Arizona State already took another QB last week, but may take two with this class.
“I try to mold my game around (Cam Newton) the most,” Virgil told AL.com. “He has a great arm and can throw the ball a lot. He beat a lot of odds with the ‘Camback’ and still won the national championship.”
