Domino effect, 4-star DB Hampton drops Ole Miss, eyes Bama

Recruiting is a lot like Newton’s laws of motion–for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

That appears to be the case with the decommitment of five-star safety Laurence ‘Hootie’ Jones on Wednesday, and the subsequent move by four-star safety C.J. Hampton in the wee early hours of Thursday morning. Hampton, who has been on board with Ole Miss for more than a year, just dropped the Rebels.

And it’s been no big secret that Alabama wants him–badly. Hampton will announce his final school choice on Friday at 6:30 p.m. (EST) at his high school in Mississippi.

Hampton had 48 tackles and 3 INTs as a senior, and is slated to play in the U.S. Army All-America Bowl in San Antonio on Saturday, Jan. 4.

On the flip side, it looks like Jones might be eyeballing LSU again, but then again–who can tell with these teenagers.

  1. Alabama is still pissed about not getting Tony Conner last year. That could be one of the reason’s they want him so badly. I know Bama wouldn’t want to see both Conner and Hampton in Ole Miss’ secondary. But it does look like Hampton will flip to Bama. But Ole Miss might end up getting Bo Scarbrough from Bama.
