First of several five-star commits comes LSU’s way

And they’re off … the whirlwind of blue-chippers committing to LSU has begun.

This afternoon, Clifton Garrett, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound five-star prospect and the nation’s top-rated outside linebacker, chose the Tigers over Ole Miss, Tennessee and Florida. He had taken official visits to all four schools. Garrett is a high school prospect out of Plainfield, Illinois.

Garrett’s announcement could be the first of several monster five-star announcements that go LSU’s way in the next few weeks. A slew of uncommitted bluechippers are planning to announce at the Under Armour Game on Jan. 2–it seems almost scripted, what will happen that day. LSU should come away very happy. The nation’s No. 1 overall prospect, Leonard Fournette, is expected to pick LSU that day. LSU’s other five-star targets expected to come on board are players like Tony Brown, Speedy Noil, Malachi Dupre, Gerald Willis and possibly even Adoree Jackson and Jamal Adams.

Whether the onslaught will be enough to push LSU past Alabama in the national team rankings remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure–LSU fans will be very happy the next couple of weeks.

Editor’s note: All ranking references are based on the composite ranking.
