Miami Central High School has two of the top running back recruits in the nation–Florida commitment Dalvin Cook and Miami commitment Joseph Yearby.
This weekend, Cook revealed that he will name his final college choice on Jan. 2 during the telecast of the Under-Armour All America Game. The game will be live that day on ESPN at 4 p.m. EST.
Cook has been on board with Florida for several months, but the Gators’ on-the-field struggles and the fact that Kelvin Taylor and Matt Jones are back in the backfield next year have made Cook check out other schools a bit to see if he might want to go elsewhere. Florida State and Miami are two key schools, not surprisingly as he is a Sunshine State product. He also has been wooed by Arkansas assistant Randy Shannon, who was once the head coach at Miami, and he also took an official visit to Texas.
Though he’s from Miami, it’s hard to think he’d want to compete with his friend and prep backfield mate Yearby for carries with the Hurricanes. The Seminoles are the sexy option with the way they’ve played this year.
But Yearby was asked after Miami Central’s state championship game this weekend where he thought his friend Cook would end up. Yearby replied, “Florida is probably in the lead …”
Whether Yearby was asked by Cook to throw reporters off the scent or not remains to be seen, but that’s where it stands now, as Cook has emphasized that he’s done with recruiting until the announcement on Jan. 2–his mind is made up and he won’t be talking about it with coaches or the media.
