Four-star DB Hampton back with Ole Miss, shuns Bama

NEW: Follow on facebook -

Friday was a good day in Oxford, Miss.

Ole Miss got a double shot of good news Friday, as C.J. Hampton’s flirtation with Alabama apparently came to an end when he re-committed to Ole Miss Friday night. Also, earlier in the morning, D-lineman Garrald McDowell committed to the Rebels after looking like an LSU lean for many months.

Both players are on the level of the current standout freshmen who made national headlines signing with Ole Miss 10 months ago. Both are four-star prospects.

Hampton had been wooed by Alabama most of the fall, but never technically decommitted from the Rebels until earlier this week. Hampton actually first committed to Ole Miss back in 2012. He is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety out of Meridian (Miss.). He is a huge get for the Rebels, who obviously need to defend their home state from the Alabamas, Auburns and LSUs of the SEC West.

Hampton will enroll at Ole Miss in January. He is the Rebels’ 25th commitment for the 2014 recruiting class, which is currently ranked No. 14 in the nation.

  1. I think I said it yesterday that CJ Hampton wasn’t going to Bama. Ole Miss is going to have a great safety duo with Tony Conner and CJ Hampton. Conner is a freshman All-American. Bama tried really hard to get Conner last year just like they tried with Hampton.
