Greenwood High School has been quite a pipeline to the South Carolina Gamecocks’ football program in recent years. Davon Durant might be taking the long route to join the program, but there’s a decent chance that he’ll be there next year.
Durant just told Scout.com that he has four leaders, and the Gamecocks and Georgia Bulldogs are two of them. Durant is rated the best junior college linebacker in America right now, and he’ll play at Butler Community College in Kansas this fall. After that, it looks like it’ll be either South Carolina, Georgia, Arizona State or Florida State that’ll land him.
Durant has 18 scholarship offers. He stands 6-foot-2, 240 pounds and is rated the No. 8 overall junior college prospect in America.
“I like the defensive scheme (the Gamecocks) run,” Durant told Scout.com. “It’s a great one that would use my talents effectively. The coaches do a good job at getting their players prepared and coaching them up. I know the coaches there real well so there’s a lot of familiarity.”
Former South Carolina stars Kelcy Quarles and D.J. Swearinger played at Greenwood H.S. Also, another potential JUCO signee for the Gamecocks–the nation’s No. 2 overall JUCO prospect Marquavius Lewis–is from Greenwood.
