Josh Smith has taken a break from social media contact with coaches, he posted on Twitter in late March. But he hasn’t taken a break from trying to figure out which school is best for him.
Alabama and in-state Vanderbilt top his list at this time, the four-star linebacker told Rivals.com this week. The nation’s No. 10 inside linebacker is out of Murfreesboro (Tenn.) and also lists Auburn, Ole Miss and Tennessee as “up there” and Kentucky, Mississippi State and Mizzou have also offered him a scholarship. Smith is a big guy and he can hit. In February, Alabama and Auburn came on strongly, and most of the SEC has been on him from day one. This would be a huge recruiting victory if the Commodores pull it off.
One big plus for Vanderbilt is that Josh’s older brother, Emmanuel Smith, is on the roster for the Commodores, but that doesn’t mean little brother is a lock to Vandy.
Josh Smith finished his junior season at Oakland H.S. with 82 tackles with 8 tackles for loss with a pair of sacks and three forced fumbles.
